VoiceThread Docs / Mobile App / Troubleshooting / General issues

If the app has frozen, crashed, or is simply behaving inconsistently, try all of the troubleshooting steps below.

Check your network

While it can work on a 3G or 4G connection, VoiceThread works optimally when your device is connected to a wireless network. This is especially true if you are uploading media. If you are using a 3G or 4G network, you may need to wait longer for images to upload and comments to save properly. The app may also crash occasionally if there is not sufficient bandwidth to upload your media.

Quit the VT app and free up memory by quitting other apps

When an application is open on your mobile device, it will often continue to run quietly until you have turned off the device or until you terminate the app. If you have too many apps running simultaneously, your device may not have enough memory to keep from crashing. You can help this by force-stopping any apps that are running unnecessarily.

It’s also a good idea to force-stop the VT app and then re-open it if you are seeing unexpected behavior.

Restart your device

When any application freezes or behaves abnormally, often a quick “system reboot” will clear up the problem. To do this, just turn off your device, wait a few seconds, and then turn it on again.

Update the app

Make sure that you are using the latest version of the VT app.

Update your operating system

Make sure that you are using the latest version of iOS or Android available for your device.
